SCIENCE, EDUCATION AND REUSE
Scientific Beacons
People whose ideas still light up the world.
The walls of IT Classroom 1 at Radoje Domanović Primary School in Kragujevac now tell a new story through illuminated portraits and facts about scientists whose discoveries changed the world. EDUKOS and the school funded the work to make the room more welcoming and offer pupils a daily reminder of how far knowledge and curiosity can take us.

How the beacons took shape
Old panels, fluorescent tubes and fittings were obtained from schools replacing their lighting as part of energy efficiency improvements. Rather than becoming waste, they were refurbished and mounted on the classroom walls. At the same time, large portraits and informative texts about scientists were prepared, printed on transparent film and attached to acrylic panels. The old equipment gained an entirely new purpose: illuminating the stories of people who pushed the boundaries of knowledge.
Between computer tasks, pupils can now pause at a portrait, read a detail and meet the person behind a familiar name. The panels invite conversations about discoveries, perseverance and ideas that once seemed unusual. The classroom became both more attractive and richer in learning material, while the project showed how much can be achieved by finding a new use for existing things. Miloš Milosavljević led and carried out the project.
